The Effect Of Agility, Coordination and Balance On The Locomotor Ability Of Students Aged 7 To 10 Years

Abstract

The problem discussed in this study is the lack of movement skills of elementary school students in Lima Puluh Kota regency. Children’s basic movement skills can only be improved and developed until they reach 10 years old. The locomotor is a basic element of movement that must be mastered by every child. The locomotor ability is the foundation for the realization of various technical sports skills. Realizing locomotor movement is supported by physical aspects including, agility, coordination and balance. The purpose of this study is to reveal the direct and indirect effects as well as the simultaneous influence of the variables namely agility, coordination and balance toward locomotor abilities. The method used in this research is quantitative with a path analysis approach. The population of the study is elementary school students aged 7 to 10 years male and female in Lima Puluh Kota regency, West Sumatra Province. Samples were taken by using purposive sampling with a total of 125 students. Data were obtained through tests (1) agility with shuttle run, (2) coordination with cable jump and (3) balance with one-food stand. The locomotor was tested by using the TGMD-2 test instrument. The results showed that agility had a direct effect of 36%, coordination had a direct effect of 9.37%, and coordination had a direct effect of 8.06% toward locomotor abilities. Furthermore agility through balance has an effect of 24.01%, coordination through balance has an effect of 32.2% toward locomotor abilities. Simultaneously agility, coordination and balance affect the locomotor ability of 31.7%.
